The Shenango Valley Animal Control and Shelter located at 2599 Broadway Road, Hermitage, PA serves the municipalities of Sharon, Hermitage, Farrell, Sharpsville, West Middlesex, and Wheatland. The Shenango Valley Animal Shelter also works very closely with the Department of Agriculture's State Dog Warden and their regional program of dealing with dog issues. The Shelter operates 6 days per week and staff are available for specified animal emergencies, rescue, and pick up services in conjunction with the local police departments and the state dog warden seven days per week as required. The Shelter is managed and operated by the Mercer County Regional Council of Governments located at 2495 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA. The Shenango Valley Animal Shelter is also a registered PA kennel. The Shelter makes every effort to find homes for all of its deemed adoptable dogs and cats housed at its facility. Every effort financially and humanely possible is made to treat these animals with the best of care. Generous donations of food and other supplies help make these efforts possible, in addition to the annual financial support of the participating governments involved.
The Shenango Valley Animal Shelter never turns away stray animals brought to the facility, while owner drop-off animals are accepted for a fee based on our housing capacity. Unfortunately, we are a kill shelter, but we save and relocate as many as we can.
